Does this little 79\u20ac SY keep its promises?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, there is &#8220;true beginner&#8221; and &#8220;false beginner&#8221;. To be honest, given the technical configuration of the sewing machines, I don&#8217;t think there will<strong>ever<\/strong> be machines for &#8220;true beginners&#8221;. The only machine for &#8220;true beginners&#8221; that I&#8217;ve seen was a machine I had when I was very small and it had only one thread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>So don&#8217;t count on IKEA to teach you how to sew!<\/strong> Buy the machine, read the manual and then take some sewing lessons, just in case&#8230; For<strong>false beginners<\/strong> like me (not good at doing complicated things but good enough to use a machine properly), this machine is just PERFECT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The machine has<\/strong>, among others, :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An accessory compartment: can do better!<\/li><li>A lamp<\/li><li>A stitch pattern selector<\/li><li>Reverse button<\/li><li>2 manuals: user manual + maintenance manual (in French, Spanish and Portuguese)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Accessories :<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A presser foot (installed on the machine)<\/li><li>A zipper foot<\/li><li>A buttonhole foot<\/li><li>3 additional needles<\/li><li>A coil rod (it&#8217;s a bit useless)<\/li><li>2 felt washers to make the upper thread spool turn more easily (slack)<\/li><li>A seam ripper (super useful)<\/li><li>A brush (for cleaning)<\/li><li>3 standard size cans<\/li><li>A screwdriver<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>THE +S<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing IKEA did to make life easier for everyone was to have :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>a notice full of images<\/li><li>clear instructions for each stitch (e.g. for the straight stitch, you have to set to such and such a tension, use such and such a foot, such and such a stitch&#8230; which is great!)<\/li><li>a machine delivered with a bobbin (with thread) already well installed in the right place. Just thread the needle thread, pull the bobbin thread out and you can start sewing. I remember, when I was a true beginner and tried to tame a machine more professional than this one (all alone with a badly drawn manual), my worst nightmare was the bobbin. I put it in the wrong place and broke I don&#8217;t know how many needles.<\/li><li>a very nice detail: the thread cutter<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"289\" height=\"383\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mehach.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/machine_coudre_ikea2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mehach.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/machine_coudre_ikea2.jpg 289w, https:\/\/www.mehach.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/machine_coudre_ikea2-226x300.jpg 226w, https:\/\/www.mehach.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/machine_coudre_ikea2-84x111.jpg 84w, https:\/\/www.mehach.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/machine_coudre_ikea2-200x265.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>THE &#8211; :<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When the trouble starts, the true beginner will still have trouble setting up his machine: So take lessons first! or try to understand the meaning of pages 28-29 (&#8220;solving problems&#8221;)<\/li><li>No setting for <strong>stitch width<\/strong>.<\/li><li>The second foot is not very suitable for making an invisible closure.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To conclude, <strong>it is a great machine for false beginners<\/strong>, easy to use, small and very light (6.1kg).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make fabric masks, if you use not too thick fabrics such as cotton, you will be able to do it without any problem!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who want to retouch clothes, it is also well adapted, <strong>except for jeans<\/strong> where you would need a slightly stronger machine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What DIY fanatic wouldn&#8217;t have fallen for this IKEA sewing machine in preppy colors, marketed as &#8220;perfect for beginners&#8221;?
