My Winter Capsule Wardrobe #5: Falconeri Woven cashmere down vest

This post is also available in: Français

In Portugal, where I spent a weekend just after Christmas, they practice sales right after Christmas. Thanks to the discounts, I was able to treat myself to a sleeveless down vest. I’ve been wanting to buy one for a while now, but I can’t seem to find a model that stands out from the “finance bro” or “tech bro” look (they all wear that famous Patagonia vest with their white shirt).

When I saw this puffer vest at Falconeri, I thought it was perfect: it’s reversible. On one side: down & feathers. On the other: cashmere (with less than 2% nylon, it’s mentioned in the product description but not necessarily on the label – a legal practice in Europe). So when I wear it under a coat (for extra warmth), it looks like I’m wearing a cashmere vest, not a puffer vest.

About this item

Woven cashmere down vest – €298

This reversible down vest, created in fine Ultrasoft Cashmere, stands out for its vertical cable knit, which gives depth and character to the fabric. The metal zip fastening is paired with an Ultrasoft Cashmere high-neck collar, ensuring snug comfort and extra protection. With the hip length and Regular Fit. We recommend sizing up one to two sizes for the best fit, this piece combines versatility, style and functionality in perfect balance.

• Ultrasoft Cashmere and nylon
• Reversible
• Sleeveless
• Cable knit detail
• Zip fastening
• Ultrasoft Cashmere high-neck collar

Composition

• Padding: 90% Down, 10% feathers
• Knit part: 100% Cashmere
• Fabric: 100% Polyamide

I tried two colorways: cream and chocolate. The cream colorway doesn’t suit me at all; it makes me look fat. So I bought the chocolate colorway. But as you can see in the photos, the cashmere side has no pockets. The down side has two small pockets.

As for the cashmere quality, Falconeri isn’t a top cashmere brand (it already pills). The down and feathers they use for this puffer vest must be of average quality too (duck, most likely), and there’s a slight typical smell of medium-quality duck down.

However, I appreciate the reversible zipper, which is very well made.

I also appreciate the cashmere high collar. Many sleeveless puffer vests don’t have a collar, which negates their usefulness. This one is made of cashmere and has a cinching effect thanks to a weaving technique whose name I’ve forgotten – it’s perfect for protecting me from drafts.

Despite its quality flaws (cashmere and down), for €150 (thanks to a 50% discount), I say GO FOR IT. The concept, design, and warmth… I really like them. As for sizing, I bought an XS. I’d say it runs large on purpose so you can layer it. In the photo, I’m wearing an undershirt, a cashmere sweater, and on top, the sleeveless puffer vest. Note that there are several models, including a cheaper one with an ultra-thin cashmere layer. I only recommend my model, which is called Woven cashmere down vest.

In short, at Falconeri, I tried other types of products (jackets, coats, sweaters), and I only approve of this sleeveless puffer vest.
