[Review] Suistudio Coat in 100% Wool, Lined with Cupro

It was while doing research on Vinted that I came across a Suistudio coat. The photos immediately appealed to me because I recognized the codes of tailoring. I’ll show you some photos of the coat and tell you why I like it so much.

Suistudio is a women’s fashion brand specializing in tailoring, launched as the exclusively female branch of Suitsupply, a renowned Dutch company known for its men’s suits. Created to meet the growing demand for formal and elegant women’s clothing, Suistudio distinguishes itself with its modern approach to tailoring while maintaining the quality craftsmanship and impeccable cuts that have built Suitsupply’s reputation.

Suistudio focuses on structured silhouettes, high-quality fabrics primarily from Italy, and an aesthetic that combines sophistication and modernity. The brand offers fitted suits, tailored jackets, straight or flared pants, and tailored skirts, meeting the needs of women looking for an assertive professional wardrobe without sacrificing style.

Unfortunately, by the time I discovered Suistudio, the brand no longer exists, having not survived Covid. At the time, consumers could even get custom-made suits from Suistudio. Although the manufacturing is Chinese, its quiet high-end as we will see shortly.

My coat is only 100% wool but it has a very soft touch, very similar to cashmere. The brand doesn’t indicate the origin of the wool, but on certain products, you can even see the weaver’s logo. I really like this somewhat “vicuna” color that matches well with my ankle boots.

Suistudio is inspired by the tailoring details. For example, this topstitching point between the fabric and the lining. In tailoring, this is a hand stitch that must be done. Here, I imagine they used a special machine to do it because it seems quite regular to me.

Another detail that I greatly appreciate is the presence of the “mignonette.” The fact that the sleeve lining is different from the body lining is a very high-end detail. Indeed, in tailored couture, the sleeve lining called “mignonette” is often striped, and the stripe runs in the direction of the arm. These stripes help strengthen the sleeve lining and resist against fingernail scratches when putting your arm in the sleeve. It is very rare to see this in ready-to-wear clothing.

The lining is made of cupro (cellulose-based). It’s an artificial fiber but more pleasant and more natural than polyester. It is also antistatic, a big plus for winter.

I don’t know when this coat was purchased, but at that time, it was only 299 euros. A great deal for 100% wool and all these little details that bring joy.

The cut is quite simple, there are no pleats, the lapel has also been simplified, the invisible pockets on the sides are very simple too, and there is no inside pocket. The topstitching on the lapel (called AMF stitch, which requires time and cost), often present on this type of coat, is absent (you can see this stitch on my Max Mara coat next to it). Another economy on the brand’s part. For a 100% wool coat, it’s too “featherweight” to be really warm in winter, but honestly, for the price, it’s a deal for me.

In short, I think it’s a very beautiful brand. Right now, you can find exact copies of my coat in other colors on Vinted. But there is also another more elaborate version with more details (pockets, lapels, topstitching, better fabric, better wool). I’ll leave a screenshot here for you.
