[Review] The Ordinary 100% Niacinamide Powder

This is the latest addition to The Ordinary. Following the complaints of people who would have liked too much to have a niacinamide serum but who don’t like the 1% Zinc of the serum Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, The Ordinary has just released its powder, containing 100% niacinamide.

100% Niacinamide Powder, 20g for 5,8€, is only on sale on The Ordinary’s official website for the moment

What’s it for?

Let’s just remember what niacinamide brings:

Niacinamide is a water-soluble vitamin of B3, ultra moisturizing. It improves the barrier function of the skin by stimulating the synthesis of lipids, limiting water loss and fighting against dryness. It stimulates the production of collagen (reduces wrinkles), has an anti-inflammatory effect (against acne), decreases and regulates the production of melanin (superb for spots).

With the serum Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% of the same brand, here is the result obtained after 6 months => my skin likes niacinamide a lot

before/after – 6 months

Why should I buy the powder?

Some people don’t like the 1% Zinc of the serum Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and purge severely (lots of painful pimples), instead of having a beautiful skin.

I don’t have any problems with zinc, but I bought the powder version anyway.

  • First of all, to give you a feedback.
  • Then, the powder form will last me longer.
  • And finally, this format will allow me to carry less product.

Yes, instead of taking the 60ml glass bottle with me all the time, I just take the 20g jar, which is lighter. Moreover, the powder is to be used with a serum, so instead of spreading myself with 2 serums: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and Buffet + Copper Peptides 1%, now I just spread myself with Buffet + Copper Peptides 1% mixed with a 1/4 spoon of niacinamide.

I really like the packaging already. It’s classy. The cap screws perfectly into the jar, unlike the other caps at The Ordinary.

When you open it for the first time, there is a protective layer. Personally, I keep it, as I travel a lot, so that the powder doesn’t get everywhere.

How to use it?

  • Mix a quarter of the spoon provided with a water-based serum in the palm of your hand.
  • Apply to face morning and/or evening.
  • Avoid the eye area and rinse thoroughly with water in case of contact.
  • Wash hands after use.
  • Do not mix with formulations having a pH of 5 or less.

The Ordinary recommends mixing with one of the following products:

  • Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (I don’t like this serum at all)
  • Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (never tested)
  • “Buffet” + Copper Peptides 1% (I like it very much, The Ordinary link)
  • Matrixyl 10% + HA (never tested)
  • Argireline Solution 10% (never tested)

A plastic spoon is provided. You can see that the powder is filled halfway into the jar. But they still want to provide us with a big pot, surely to be able to store the spoon in it?

It is however very hard to dose the quantity to be used perfectly well. They should have made the spoon corresponding to the recommended quantity, instead of forcing us to determine what 1/4 of the spoon is. This is completely stupid!

I use the powder with Buffet + Copper Peptides 1% (link to The Ordinary).

Why? Niacinamide regulates excess sebum, so it can be drying at times. Mixing it with a moisturizing serum based on water and peptides + amino acids, allows the skin to be hydrated anyway.

Here I show you 1/4 spoon of niacinamide powder with 1 drop of Buffet + Copper Peptides 1%. The powder is super super fine, so don’t mix it in a windy place.

When the two are mixed, the niacinamide is completely dissolved in the serum, there is no trace of powder. And here is my well hydrated hand 😀

Results

Personally, I don’t see any difference with the serum Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. My skin likes it very much.

I will finish my Niacinamide serum, and then switch completely to powder.

OK, but can I bring him on the plane with me?

So, I know that many of you are afraid to bring powders with you on a plane.

But you should know that there are machines for that, to determine if it’s a drug or not. They will put a sponge on your powder and the machine will scan it and will be able to tell in 2 seconds if you should be put in jail or not. So don’t worry about taking it with you on a trip.
