My Winter Capsule Wardrobe #6: Quilted Silk Dressing Gown

I think this dressing gown will be one of my best purchases of 2026. If I had known that this type of clothing existed, I would have bought it long ago.

Recently, I sewed a silk kimono / dressing gown and it seemed too short and especially too thin to wear in winter. I wanted a more wintery version and on Vinted, I came across by chance a quilted silk satin dressing gown! It caught my full attention because for two years, I’ve been regularly asking my Vietnamese artisan to make me something similar in silk but he refuses every year, without giving explanations. Let me show you right away what it looks like:

This robe also comes from a French lingerie brand, Marjolaine. I paid 80€ for it, brand new with tags, in my size (36).

I can’t quite capture the exact color in photos, but it’s somewhat “rose gold”, coppery, it’s extremely beautiful.

To attach the batting layer to the outer silk, brands generally opt for V or X-shaped stitching, a bit boring. Here, however, we benefit from delicate diamond-shaped patterns. I find it very discreet and luxurious. There are other details I really like: a ribbon to tie one side of the robe on the inside.

Then, we have 2 buttons to choose from, to properly close the outer panel.

A long silk belt, supported by two loops, allows me to close the robe properly and make a beautiful bow in front. To satisfy the most demanding, there are topstitched cuffs and, of course, two pockets on the sides!

It’s truly an exceptional piece, every detail is executed with care and intelligence. The outer fabric is silk, but the lining is also silk. Everything is luxurious, the feel is out of this world!

There are just two details I would have liked to change: (1) the 87cm length is good but I would have liked it to reach the ankle to be really warm in winter (2) I don’t know what the batting is made of, I really hope it’s silk too. It’s very light, thin but warm. In any case, that would explain why it must be hand washed exclusively, and not even dry cleaned.

I understood that it used to be sold for 499€!! but since it’s now part of an old collection, you can find them in all sizes on Vinted for 109€, (I was able to negotiate down to 80€)!! It’s a bargain, because if I had to go through my Vietnamese artisan, he would have charged me much more than that (while grumbling haha).
