I think we all love 5-star hotel bathrobes. But they all have the disadvantage of being too thick and taking forever to dry.
When I was given a waffle-weave bathrobe in a luxury hammam in Turkey, all I wanted was to leave with it. It was completely different from all the bathrobes I had touched until then, light and very pleasant. It made such an impression on me that I talked to my husband JB about it. JB, who was also at the same hammam but in the men’s section, also confirmed that this bathrobe hadn’t left him indifferent. Unfortunately, the hammam in question wouldn’t sell it to me and wouldn’t tell me where to buy one. I kept looking for it until we arrived at Marriott Dead Sea in Jordan. The famous cotton bathrobes with the “waffle” pattern were there. The touch is absolutely incredible, they are super comfortable, super light, and dry super fast.
We checked the labels and it says “De Witte Lietaer – Competence in Linen”.
Hallelujah, it’s a Belgian brand, it’s right next to where we live! After searching their website, I finally found the reference: Abeja model, 230g/m2, 100% Oeko-Tex cotton. However, it’s impossible to order as an individual.
No problem, you can either order on marriott.com or find it on Vinted. Since De Witte Lietaer also makes white-label bathrobes, sometimes you’ll find exactly the same bathrobe but with a spa or 5-star hotel logo. With experience, you can recognize them right away by carefully observing the label at the collar, but to be safe, order directly from Marriott.
Be careful, there are many similar models, you must choose the Kimono collar (not the shawl collar) and the “waffle weave“.
The waffle weave allows for a larger absorption surface while ensuring featherweight. Thus, the bathrobe absorbs more water but also dries faster, everything you want in a bathrobe.
The disadvantage is its length: 120cm for all sizes. It’s a bit short for JB who is 1.85m tall, but it’s the perfect size for me, and I can really spend all day in the bathrobe. Sometimes I sleep in it too. I highly recommend it!
